Drawn in blood

Drawn in blood

I sat in the room, my hostage tied to the chair as I sat on their desk and bounced my legs. I threw a syringe into the trashcan before taking a drink from a coffee cup laid on the desk. As I heard the sirens outside I grabbed a tarp and held it out the window waving to the approaching officers. I pulled the tarp back inside and waited for Rosa to be sent inside. After a few moments, I heard the door handle turn and I looked over. The door opened and I was met with the same pink locks with the same disdainful expression as usual. "Vertis." Rosa said her arms on her hips more like a disapproving mother than a detective going to negotiate for someone's life. "Was it that obvious?" I said as I chuckled. "We've been eyeing this guy as your next target for a while." "But my misdirection led you elsewhere." "Yep..." "Well, go on and ask, I can see it on your face." "Why are you doing all of this?" "Simple, you're fun to talk to." "But we keep going back and forth..." "So, I decided to play my royal flush. Do you see this?" I said as I held a syringe infront of her, its contents clear and translucent. "This is my special toxin, I'm going to inject myself with this." "You're insane..."

"Maybe so, but I want to see what your limit is. I've killed 'people', and so has Mr. Official over here, but actual innocent lives. But, you definitely know about his other affairs then"? I said seeing Rosa flinch. "Yep, drug kingpin. Here's the catch, I also have the antidote, enough for just one of us, but this goes for a few... Trillion dollars on the market. So, you could leave both of us to die, reap the rewards, get out of your debt, and write my death off as a suicide. I even have the note." I said waving a piece of paper through the air. "You're fucking sick..." Rosa growled. "Maybe, maybe my actions are what you define as, mentally unwell? Because I'm looking at objective truth, nothing clouded by emotions, unlike you. Anyone can talk about being infallible, Rosa. Anyone can claim to be this beacon of hope and morality. but deep down, we all have our allegiances. In your eyes we should both be deplorable and worthy of death. So, this is where I see, if you have your biases or not". I flicked the syringe and looked at my leg. "Well, let's see." I said before stabbing the needle into my hostage and then myself injecting us both with the toxin, we'd both die in approximately 30 minutes. It was longer than my poison would normally take, but this one I made to make a point. My vision swirled as my system rejected the toxin it had created. "Well, the ball is in your court, detective." I said before reaching in my pocket and pulling out another needle. "Think fast~!" I threw the needle to Rosa and watched her scramble to grab it out of the air. "In the end, someone, has to die. You get to pick. Let two monsters die, or let the lesser of two evils live, so make your decision. A man who kills directly, or a man who kills others indirectly".

Time to choose detective. Who dies? Vertis, or the Official? You can influence the outcome by saying your vote in the comments.
