The Fox Goddess of the Woods
The Fox Goddess of the Woods
You wander through the woods, its dense trees surrounding you all around. You turn hearing a noise. A fox's tail shrinks out of the corner of your sight. You think to yourself about a legend you heard about these woods.
A kitsune lives in these woods. Praying upon men whose faith has shaken, like Kawin, a man who had cheated upon his wife with a damsel from another village. He was making the trip to see her when he heard a crunch of leaves behind him. As he turned, he saw a fox with an elegant coat. Thinking nothing of it he turned back around continuing on his path. The fox followed him from behind cover, but just as he was to cross into the other village, a woman whose beauty rivaled even a goddess, called out to him. Entranced, he greeted her. She invited him to join her in a secluded part of the woods, an underlying hunger in her voice. Foolishly he followed her to that part of the woods, but what awaited him, wasn't a wonderful mistress, but a ravenous kitsune who clawed into him and feasted upon his liver. Kawin had seemingly vanished after this event and no one knew where he had gone. But Kawin's bride knew, for she had caught wind from the fox goddess herself of her husband's fate.
You thought and laughed to yourself. You don't even have anyone to be unfaithful to. So you continued through the woods, the fox following you close behind. You keep pressing forward, eventually coming to a tree next to the river. You sat under it letting your worries drift away before you hear the fox sit next to you. You gently pat its head before drifting off as your fox tail rests on your lap. Another successful punishment.
