Reaper's Haven P2

 Reaper's Haven P2

I wonder if I should even bother to try to blend in. I mean, nobody bats an eye here when they see the icon of death himself walking around, so maybe I shouldn't bother hiding myself. Well, what better time to scout.

I arrived at the school only to see it was totally empty. I walked throughout the halls, concrete slab flooring. I mean, if you want their feet to hurt. I opened a door and glimpsed inside. Yeah, entirely empty, not sure what I expected. I decided to try to find a hidden wall switch, but nothing. Why would there be one, this isn't a horror flick. I shrugged and eventually found the principal's office. I assumed nobody had enrolled so I looked through a filing cabinet. "Ah, everyone who enrolled here either left back for society, or ended up another corpse in the street.", I said closing the cabinet. As I began to leave the room I heard soft humming. I glimpsed around expecting to see a camera. "Ok, maybe I am in a horror flick.", I said. But seeing the lack of cameras, I shrugged and decided to investigate. What could a ghost do to the embodiment of death anyway? The source of the humming wasn't some attic ghost like I expected. Instead it was a girl in casual attire. Even though casual attire is probably like wearing a tuxedo made of gold here. I noticed a murky blackness hovering over her. "Great. Monsters too?", I said. She looked at me, seemingly entirely ignoring the fact my face was a human skull. "Hello?", she spoke. I waved. "Say, you know, you have like a demon, monster thing hovering over your head right?" She looked up "That's my friend.", she said. Friends with a demon monster thing that looks like it came out of a Stephen King horror story? Then again I don't have much room to talk being the Grimm Reaper and all. She looked up at me. "What's your name?", she asked. I'll just tell her the truth "Death.", I said. "Alright, I'm Barrie. The murky blackness is, well, I don't know his name." Barrie said. Another redflag? So you have this, eldritch, demon thing floating around you and it hasn't even told you it's name? Isn't a demon's weakness it's name? Barrie's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. "I'm gonna go to the lake. Do you want to come with me?", she asked. What kid sits in the middle of an entirely empty school? Obviously not one with a lot of friends. That or she's trying to lure me into a trap where she'll try to kill me. What's the worst that could happen? I thought. "Sure.", I said. I noticed she nearly lept out of her chair with joy. "Alright! I-I'll meet you there tomorrow!" She smiled before skipping off. I turned and made my way towards the exit. I have a day ahead of me alright.

Personal thoughts

There was something about that smile... It seemed geniune. I can't say I'm surprised that she doesn't have friends though. Nobody around here has a conscience. Friendships are all a ploy here anyway. I'll find out her intentions when I meet her tomorrow.
